Amazon’s Secret Plan for a Revolutionary Web Browser: Could it Change Internet Advertising Forever?
Amazon’s User Survey
Amazon is known for disrupting industries, and it seems like it has its sights set on the web browser market. The company recently sent out a survey asking detailed questions about users’ web browsing habits and preferences, including which features would “convince you to download and try” a new desktop/laptop browser from Amazon.
The survey went beyond the usual questions about speed and security, asking users to rate the importance of features such as text-to-speech and syncing passwords across devices. One particularly interesting question asked users to select which of several topics they would most like to know more about in a new Amazon browser, including privacy, syncing, and shopping features.
A Game-Changing Browser?
This move into the browser market comes at a time when the advertising industry is in turmoil due to Google’s plan to kill third-party cookies in Chrome, the world’s most popular web browser. Amazon, with its massive trove of consumer data, could potentially disrupt the industry further if it’s able to match that information with data collected from a web browser.
According to Gizmodo writer Thomas Gormain, this isn’t Amazon’s first foray into the browser market, having previously released the Silk browser for its own devices. However, this survey suggests that Amazon may be considering a browser for desktops for the first time. With its history of disrupting industries, it will be interesting to see what Amazon comes up with and how it could potentially impact the way we browse the web.
